Scapegoat; Andres Escobar


A scapegoat is a person put to blame for others actions.
Andre Escobar before the game that changed his life.
 
He is defined as a scapegoat because he scored against his own team, which than cost his team the FIFA World Cup and lots of money to drug cartels.


Andre Escobar 27, number two Colombian footballer was named the "Gentleman of Football." Andre was shot and killed in Medellin after he made his own goal in the 1994 FIFA World Cup against the United States. On July 2nd, 1994, Escobar and friends had gone to a night club. At three a.m. Escobar was alone in the parking lot outside the night club when a group of men appeared. They began arguing with Escobar, and he was then shot twelve times while the  group were shouting "Goal!!" People honor Escobar every year by bringing pictures and memories of him to matches.

One of the reasons behind Andre Escobar's killing was the Colombian drug cartel had a lot of money on the game that Andre scored on his own goal.The drug cartel made threats to the team to change the line up before for the game. The team got upgraded security due to the threats.The drug cartel lost 10 million dollars because of the loss.
Pablo Escobar was a high ranking drug cartel leader in Columbia, although they are not related, their is reason to believe that he had something to do with the killing of Andres.
